Hungarian Paprika is the ground, toasted fruit of the red bell variety of the Capsicum annuum plant, a member of the nightshade family. It has a pungent, sweet and slightly smokey flavor. Hungarian Paprika is most commonly used to season and color rices, stews, and soups, such as goulash and sausages. In the United States, Paprika is frequently sprinkled on foods as a garnish, but the flavor is more effectively produced by heating it gently in oil first.
